Determining Cloud Backup Type

This article has been designed for customers using Cloud Backup only. The image below depicts a cluster configuration using Atlas Cloud Backup. We can confirm this with the following details.

  1. Only Turn on Cloud Backup is enabled

  2. A price for your Cloud Backup is displayed in GB Month.

If you see the same information displayed to you whilst visiting your Edit Configuration panel you are using Cloud Backups.

Understanding Costing Considerations

Atlas computes the cost for Cloud Backups based on the total size of all snapshots in GB per month.

You will need:

  • The Monthly Backup Rate (from your clusters configuration panel, for example $0.14/GB month as indicated in the image below)

  • The Total Snapshot Count (from you cluster's Backup Policy tab, take the number of total estimated backups at the bottom of the page)

  • The snapshot size (from your Backup Snapshot page, take 1 snapshot Used Size value) .

  • Multiply your total as shown below:
    โ€‹

Monthly Backup Rate x (Snapshot size x Total Snapshot Count) = Monthly Backup cost

Note: The individual line items on your monthly bills are shown with a daily rate calculated from the monthly backup rate.

For example a cloud backup rate of $0.14/GB month will have a daily backup rate of $0.004603/GB day. ie. ($0.14 ร— 12 months / 365 days) = $0.004603 rounded.

For additional information please see the MongoDB Atlas Billing Cloud Backups documentation.
